The Alternative to Out of School Suspension Program (ALTOSS) is a free program open to Martin County middle and high school students who have been suspended from school. ALTOSS provides a safe, structured and educational experience for your child during their suspension. Our goal is to give you peace of mind while providing an opportunity for your child’s growth.
ALTOSS has been proven to be effective in decreasing repeat suspensions by using targeted activities to increase the student’s awareness of the importance of positive character, relationships, respect and cooperation. 70% of students who attend this program do not get resuspended.
Since 1999, we have helped families and adolescent students experiencing difficulties in school to gain the stability and strength to interact positively in their daily environment. This program helps students keep up with their school work while suspended and develop the skills to cope with their individual challenges.
Martin County School Districts will adjust student attendance to reflect attendance at ALTOSS rather than an Out of School Suspension, but please note that this is subject to change at the discretion of the school district.
Please call to confirm that your child will be attending as space is limited.

Tykes & Teens provides psychiatric services for children and adolescents ages 2 – 18 currently receiving therapy and services within our agency, as well as for those receiving services from other health practitioners, including psychiatric evaluations, medication, management, GeneSite testing to best personalize medication treatments and outcomes and one-time consultations. The first few years of a child’s life are a blueprint for their entire future. When very young children are exposed to traumatic events, it increases their risk of long-term mental and physical health problems. Addressing issues early means healthier children who will require less intervention later in life and can reach their full potential. Tykes & Teens Infant Mental Health therapists utilize Child Parent Psychotherapy and other evidence-based interventions for children who have experienced at least one traumatic event and as a result are exhibiting challenging behavior, attachment difficulties and/or experiencing social-emotional delays.
Mental Health Consultation is a preventative-based approach focused on fostering the social emotional development of young children from birth to age 5 at early childhood education programs to promote long-term emotional health and wellness. Mental Health Consultants are highly specialized in child development, evidence-based classroom practices, and the effects of stress and trauma. The consultants develop collaborative relationships with caregivers at early childhood education programs to support building the adult’s capacity and skills to strengthen the healthy social and emotional development of all children at the center – early and before formalized intervention is needed. Mental Health Consultants and staff support the development of nurturing and responsive relationships and increase evidence-based practices to decrease incidents of challenging behaviors and reduce preschool suspensions/expulsions.
Targeted Case Management (TCM) is a mental health service that addresses needs that may be outside the scope of therapy or psychiatry. Wraparound Targeted Case Management is a highly effective additional layer of support to mental health counseling. Tykes & Teens is the leader of the evidence-based Wraparound movement of case management on the Treasure Coast. This team-based approach focuses on a family’s strengths, needs and culture in order to address complex behavioral health and material needs such as attaining stable housing, finding childcare and ensuring other basic needs are met. In study after study, the Wraparound Model produces significant and long-lasting improvements in mental health symptoms and functioning. The goal of our Wraparound TCM services is to help children and families build new natural support systems that enable them to address their needs independently in the future.
Tykes & Teens created a camp specifically with our clients who have the most intense behavioral and emotional challenges in mind, the children who couldn’t be supported in a traditional summer camp environment. Some of these children never had the opportunity to attend a camp because their caregivers were too fearful and didn’t think a traditional camp could effectively support them. Others had been kicked out of camp in the past and others had flatly refused because of anxiety. We have removed as many barriers to attendance as possible and offer the camp to families who participate at no cost to them. The purpose of the camp is two-fold – it gives an opportunity to work more frequently and more intensely with clients who could really benefit from the added support, and it offers these clients to have the “normal” childhood experiences that their mental health challenges have prevented them from having like attending camp, feeling “normal” among their peers, and building peer relationships.
Thanks to a generous grant from Impact100 Martin, Tykes & Teens has established a walk-in clinic for children’s behavioral health care needs. This walk-in, outpatient clinic is for youth who are having behavioral health crises such as thoughts of suicide or self-harm, depression, anxiety or out-of-control behavior, among other mental health issues. Children with a mental health crisis are able to come to Tykes & Teens to get help rather than risking an hours-long wait in the emergency room for care. It is available to youth under the age of 18 (or 21 if still in high school) residing in Martin County. The goal is to divert youth from more expensive and restrictive services, provide an alternative to accessing the emergency room and provide resources to law enforcement.
