Jennifer Howell, Psy.D — Director of Outpatient Services
Dr. Jennifer Howell earned her Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in 2001 and attained her license as a Psychologist in 2002. She also maintains a Certified Addictions Professional credential from the Florida Certification Board and is currently receiving supervision toward the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Certification.
Dr. Howell specializes in treating adolescents with a broad range of presenting problems, including emotional, behavioral, substance use and disordered eating issues. She has been a therapist with Tykes & Teens since 2005 and was recently promoted to the position of Director of Outpatient Services. Dr. Howell has led our Youth Enrichment Services Program, a substance use prevention and treatment program, since 2007 and also leads our General Mental Health program. Prior to working at Tykes & Teens, Dr. Howell’s work experience included a private practice, as well as 3 years’ experience as a therapist and clinical supervisor in a juvenile correctional facility. During her time as a graduate student, her work was part of a National Institute of Mental Health grant which was published in the Journal of Child & Adolescent Substance Abuse.
Dr. Howell is a passionate child advocate who is admired and respected by her peers and our clients. As a teenager, Dr. Howell experienced the tragic death by suicide of her 14-year-old boyfriend. From this experience, she developed a passion for offering hope to young people so that they would be able to live healthy lives and learn positive ways of handling life’s challenges. Having supportive people in her life at the time made her grateful and inspired her to help others. Tykes & Teens’ supportive culture and mission have enabled Dr. Howell to fulfill her own mission of helping young people succeed in life.
