Wendy Nelson — Manager of Finance & Human Resources

Wendy Nelson was born in Syracuse, NY and moved to Jupiter, Florida from Ohio in 1972. Her family was seeking refuge from the cold Ohio winters.  Wendy moved to Martin County in 1984.

Wendy graduated from Jupiter High School and attended Ferrum College in Virginia where she received a degree in Children’s Art and Theatre. She later pursued an education in Accounting & Business taking classes at IRSC and Keiser University. She recently re-enrolled with Keiser to complete a degree in Accounting.

Wendy started at Tykes & Teens in December 2016 and manages our Human Resources and Finance Departments. She brings a wealth of experience working with several non-profit organizations and private foundations including Habitat for Humanity of Martin County, The Elliott Museum, and Samaritan House for Boys. Wendy has served as a volunteer for Treasure Coast Beekeepers and Treasure Coast Community Singers as Treasurer for the Board of Directors. She is also a past Board Member of Unity of Stuart and Treasure Coast Beekeepers.

Wendy embraces her role at Tykes in a calm and professional manner and loves working here. When asked why she loves working at Tykes & Teens, she shared this sentiment. “What I love most about Tykes and Teens is hearing the children walking and sometimes running through the halls of the office, I often find myself smiling as I hear a little one giggling as they are walking with their therapists back to the waiting room to meet with mom or dad. The level of commitment of our staff to the mission is amazing to see every day. I am excited to be part of an organization where I can actually see the difference we make in our community and in the surrounding communities as well.”

Wendy and her husband Pete own a working Hobby Farm located in Palm City Farms, where they raise goats and hold weekend workshops during the winter months.  She is a proud mom and grandmother and shares a passion for the outdoors with her family.
